Reactor Control

From Aroostook

The Reactor Control room is the main focus for gameplay in the Aroostook Research Facility, used to control and maintain the reactor.

Reactor Control Panels

Panel Alpha

Stabilizer Control Control

This panel is responsible for controlling stabilizer power setpoints and directly toggling on or off all 8 individual stabilizers. It also has a trip panel which has the ability to manually trip or reset individual stabilizers

Stabilizer Coolant Control

This panel is responsible for the coolant and temperature regulation of the 8 stabilizers; it has 4 pumps that are fed from the main hydrogen feed into the stabilizer coolant loop before then going into the core feed lines. Each stabilizer coolant pump cools both stabilizers of its group (Pump A feed stabilizer A-1 and A-2); the cooling for both stabilizers can either be toggled on or off by opening or closing their respective valves.

Main Core Control Panel

This panel allows the user to initialize a system/core start up; you can also enable manual core start up here. Both of these start up buttons also have their own respective shut down buttons, which can both be activated during certain conditions.

Fan Control Panel

This panel controls both Core Chamber fans, which regulate the air temperature. Air temperature is affected by the average stabilizer temperature across all 8 stabilizers; stabilizer temps are also affected by the air temperature itself. If the temperature is left unchecked, this can cause a positive feedback loop, increasing stabilizer temperatures and causing potential stabilizer trips to occur.

Panel Bravo

Hydrogen Injection System Control Panel

This panel is responsible for distributing hydrogen to both the core and to the stabilizer coolant pumps. The two pumps on this panel feed into 6 valves, 2 of those being feed line A and B; the other four go into the 4 individual stabilizer coolant pumps. Feeding hydrogen into the core will increase reactivity, increasing temperature. Any hydrogen concentration level below 20% will begin causing huge drops in reactivity eventually leading to core stall. Hydrogen concentration levels can be maintained using both the pumps and the core stabilizers. All 8 stabilizers at 100% will completely stabilize the hydrogen concentration level regardless of hydrogen pump input.

Nitrogen Injection System Control Panel

This panel will inject nitrogen into the core. It does not contribute to stabilizer coolant loop. Adding nitrogen to the core will decrease its reactivity, causing a drop in temperature. However a certain amount of nitrogen is still needed to maintain critical reactor function; any drop below 20% will cause a large drop in reactor temperatures. Just like hydrogen concentration, nitrogen concentration can also be stabilized using the stabilizer.

Safety System Panel

This panel contains an extra set of nitrogen and hydrogen pumps.

Panel Charlie

Electrical Distribution Panel

This panel controls the breakers used to power the Reactor Complex and all its equipment. Opening or closing these breakers will cause cascading effects across all systems.

Ionized Proton Accelerator Control Panel

This panel has no current functionality in Alpha 1, it will eventually be used in Alpha 2 to distribute electricity to the grid.

Central Desk

The central desk contains 2 computers. The far-left one acts as a log system, documenting all panel control changes that players make, and documenting all important events that may occur, such as but not limited to: bus disconnects, start-up failures, and high/low temperature warnings.

The desk also contains 2 books. These books act as a guide to the player, one being an overall guide documenting all reactor panels and controls, and the other documenting all annunciator panel protocols.

This desk also has a "Master acknowledge" button, which will acknowledge all annunciator panels within the control room.
